Two-Factor Authentication

Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) is a security feature that requires users to provide two forms of authentication in order to access their accounts. By requiring multiple forms of authentication, 2FA significantly increases the security of your account and helps protect against unauthorized access.

Given the sensitive nature of Increase, we require the use of TOTP (Time-based One-Time Password) 2FA for all accounts. TOTP is a form of 2FA that generates a temporary code using an authenticator app that is only valid for a short period of time. This code is generated using a secret key that is known only to the user and the server. Since the code is only valid for a short period of time, it is much more difficult for an attacker to intercept and use it to gain access to your account.

We also strongly recommend using a password manager such as 1Password to store your Increase password.

To setup 2FA on your Increase account, first download an authenticator app. If you’re using a password manager, this functionality is often included. Otherwise, we recommend Authy. Use that app to scan the QR code we show you when setting up your account. Now, when you log into Increase, you’ll be prompted for a code from your app.

Other forms of 2FA

We have no plans to support 2FA over SMS. SMS 2FA is vulnerable to attacks such as SIM Swapping and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has stated that the use of SMS 2FA should be restricted due to these vulnerabilities.
